Privacy Policy

CutShot is a beach-volleyball video-analysis service: you upload match footage and we automatically produce highlights and player statistics. CutShot is currently operated by its owner as an independent project; the operator is the data controller responsible for your information. For the controller’s registered legal name and postal address (for example, to make a formal data-protection request), contact us and we will provide them.

The fastest way to reach us about privacy — including to exercise any of the rights below — is hello@cutshot.app.

Account & identity. Email address, a password (stored only as a secure hash), an optional display name, and — if you choose Google sign-in — the basic profile your Google account shares. Before you sign up, we assign an anonymous visitor identifier so the app can function.

Content you upload. The volleyball match videos you upload, plus any titles or notes you add. Your videos may show other identifiable people (see “People in your videos” below).

Data we derive from your videos (automated). Our models analyze your footage to produce rally segments, player and ball tracking, ball contacts, action types, player attribution, match statistics, ratings and shareable cards, and video-quality metrics. How we tell players apart is described in “Facial recognition and body data” below.

Your edits & inputs. Rally and highlight edits, camera edits, corrections you submit, and any tags or claims you create.

Device & usage. Browser and device information, IP address, in-app usage events (via Google Analytics 4), cookies and local storage, and a last-active timestamp.

We do not use facial recognition. We do not build face templates and we do not try to identify people from their faces.

To produce statistics, our models analyze body position and movement (skeletal pose) and general visual appearance to tell the players in a single match apart and follow them across rallies. One appearance feature includes an approximate skin-tone value, used only to keep players distinct within a match. We do not use these techniques to recognize you in other videos, to identify strangers, or for any purpose beyond producing your match analysis.

Depending on where you live, body-based identification or skin-tone information may be treated as biometric or special-category data. Where that is the case, we rely on your use of the service and, where required, your consent, and we limit this processing to providing the analysis you ask for. If you do not want this processing, do not upload footage, and contact us to delete footage already uploaded.

• Provide the service — store your videos and run our machine-learning analysis.
• Generate your highlights, statistics, ratings, and shareable cards.
• Save your edits, corrections, and preferences.
• Improve our models. We may use de-identified analysis data and the corrections you submit to evaluate and improve the accuracy of our detection and statistics models. We treat your raw video as your content and limit its use to providing and improving the service. You can object to this use (see “Your rights”).
• Secure the service, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
• Send account and service emails (for example, email verification).

We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell it for money.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR:

• Contract. To create your account and provide the analysis, highlights, and features you ask for.
• Legitimate interests. To secure and improve the service, prevent abuse, process the footage you choose to upload (including people who appear in it), and operate the tagging/sharing features — balanced against your rights. You can object at any time.
• Consent. Where required — for example, certain analytics or cookies, and any processing of special-category data. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation. To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.

When you upload a match, you can tag the other players by name. This creates a private, unguessable link for each tagged player so they can see and claim their own clips and stats. That link is the only public surface — nothing is listed publicly or made searchable.

• Link previews show a first name and a short stat line — never a face or photo.
• We do not contact tagged players. We store no phone number or email for them; the person who uploaded the match shares the link directly.
• Opting out anonymizes the preview and disables the link.
• Claiming a tag is not the same as owning the match. Claiming links the match to your account for your statistics; the full match and recap remain with the uploader.

If you are tagged and want to opt out, use the opt-out option on your claim link or contact us at hello@cutshot.app.

Videos uploaded to CutShot often show people who do not have an account — teammates, opponents, and others on or near the court. We process their image and the statistics we derive about them, and a first name if an uploader tags them, in order to provide the analysis and the tagging/sharing features. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating the service, together with the uploader’s commitment (in our Terms) that they have the right and any necessary consent to upload that footage.

If you appear in a video on CutShot and you are not the uploader, you can still:

• Opt out of a claim link sent to you (this anonymizes and disables it); and
• Ask us to remove or anonymize footage or derived data about you, or object to the processing, by emailing hello@cutshot.app. We will action reasonable requests, subject to verifying your request and any legal limits.

Uploaders are responsible for only uploading footage they are allowed to share. We do not knowingly support filming people who have a reasonable expectation of privacy, harassment, or surveillance.

CutShot is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 to use the service (see our Terms). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16; if you believe a child has provided us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

Footage of minors. Beach volleyball includes junior players. Do not upload, tag, or share footage that identifies a minor unless you are their parent or guardian, or you have verifiable parental/guardian consent. If you believe a minor’s data has been uploaded without that consent, contact us at hello@cutshot.app and we will remove it.

We keep your data so it’s there whenever you come back:

• Match data & stats. Your recaps, stats, highlights, and player card are kept for as long as your account is active — they don’t expire.
• Your videos. We keep your uploaded video so you can keep watching and exporting it. To control storage costs, an original that hasn’t been used for a while may be moved to lower-cost archival storage, but it is not deleted and stays available — for example, for a full-quality export if you upgrade.
• Export quality. Set by your plan, not by time: Free exports are 720p with a watermark; Pro exports at original quality.
• Storage limits. Total stored video is capped at 2 GB (Free) or 75 GB (Pro).

You’re always in control: you can delete individual videos at any time in the app — which removes them and their stored files — or delete your whole account by contacting us at hello@cutshot.app. Backups may persist for a short period before being overwritten.

We rely on a small set of trusted providers to run CutShot. They process data on our behalf, under terms that require them to protect it:

• Amazon Web Services (S3 & CloudFront) — video storage and streaming (United States).
• Modal — GPU compute for our machine-learning analysis.
• AWS Lambda — server-side video export/rendering.
• Google — sign-in (if you use it) and Google Analytics.
• Email delivery provider — transactional email such as account verification.

Payments. Paid subscriptions are not yet available. When they launch, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor and we will not store full card details. We will update this policy before charging anyone.

We process and store data in the United States. If you are in the EEA, the UK, or another region, using CutShot involves transferring your data to the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or another lawful transfer mechanism. Contact us for more detail about the safeguards that apply to you.

We use:

• Essential cookies / local storage — required to sign you in, keep your session, and remember the anonymous visitor identifier.
• Analytics — Google Analytics 4, to understand how the product is used.

We do not use advertising cookies. You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser opt-out add-on or your browser’s cookie controls, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable. If you are in a region that requires consent before non-essential cookies are set, you can opt out as described here, and we will continue to expand our in-app cookie controls.

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, some analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) may be considered a “sale” or “share” under California law (the CCPA/CPRA) and similar U.S. state laws. You can opt out by enabling a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, using the analytics opt-outs described above, or emailing us at hello@cutshot.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

CutShot statistics and ratings are produced by automated models and are estimates that may contain errors. They are confidence-gated, you can correct them in the app, and they are not an official record (see the Terms of Use). We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you solely by automated means.

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of these rights over your personal information:

• Access a copy of your data.
• Correct inaccurate data — including your statistics, directly in the app (tap-to-fix).
• Delete individual videos in the app. To delete your account and associated data, email us and we will action it.
• Object to or restrict certain processing (including our use of data to improve our models), and withdraw consent where we rely on it.
• Portability — receive your data in a usable format.
• Opt out of tagging via your claim link, and opt out of analytics “sale/share” as described above.

For EEA/UK residents these rights arise under the GDPR / UK GDPR; for California residents under the CCPA/CPRA; other regions have comparable rights. To exercise any of them, email hello@cutshot.app. We aim to respond within 30 days (or 45 days for CCPA requests), and we may need to verify your identity first. You may use an authorized agent. If you are in the EEA or UK and are unhappy with our response, you can complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest where supported by our storage provider, access controls, and secure handling of secrets. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information. If a security breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it.

We may update this policy; we will revise the “Effective” and “Last updated” dates and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email. Questions or requests: hello@cutshot.app.
